Y Meirionnydd

Dolgellau, Gwynedd

Facilities

Description

The Meirionnydd Townhouse, located in the heart of Dolgellau, has been offering comfortable accommodation and good food for over 150 years. Originally opening as the Talbot Inn in 1865, the building has a rich history, from its medieval foundations as the county jail to its present-day role as a welcoming gathering place for both visitors and locals. Its timeless charm and warm hospitality make it a truly special destination.

The townhouse features five beautifully designed bedrooms, each with its own unique character, fabrics and bespoke furniture. Some rooms offer a relaxing bath, while others are equipped with a convenient walk-in shower. Every room Text taken from bandbstays.co.uk is fitted with the most comfortable beds and crisp white linen, ensuring a restful stay. Arran and Eryri, the cosy standard rooms, are ideal for shorter stays or solo travellers. Cadair is a secluded retreat with breathtaking views over the Welsh slate rooftops, stretching toward the majestic Cadair Idris.

For those seeking extra space, Mawddach and Meirion are the largest rooms, offering super king-sized beds and thoughtful extras to enhance the stay. Both rooms can also be arranged as twin-bedded rooms, though guests must specify this preference when booking, as changes cannot be made upon arrival.

At the heart of Y Meirionnydd is the bar, a welcoming space where guests can unwind after a scenic walk along the Mawddach Estuary or catch up on work using the complimentary Wi-Fi. It is a lively meeting point where visitors and locals cross paths, sharing stories over a carefully curated selection of wines. The wine list favours quality over quantity, featuring classic grape varieties alongside bottle-conditioned beers and what is likely the most extensive gin collection in the county.

Each morning, guests are treated to a delicious breakfast in the dining room, providing the perfect start to a day of exploring.

The picturesque town of Dolgellau, with its handsome granite and slate buildings, serves as the southern gateway to the vast Snowdonia National Park. Surrounded by mountains, lakes and the stunning Mawddach Estuary that leads out to the sea at Barmouth, the area offers endless opportunities for adventure and discovery. Places to visit include:

Cymer Abbey.
Penmaenpool Toll Bridge.
Abergwynant Woods.
Coed y Brenin Forest Park.
