Situated in the heart of the Peak District, The Old Station House is one of the closest B&Bs to Chatsworth House – and probably the most reasonably priced.
The Old Station House Bed and Breakfast is located in the charming village of Rowsley near Bakewell in Derbyshire in the south eastern corner of the Peak District National Park. Our beautiful house was designed in 1850 by Joseph Paxton, the year before he built the famous Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition in London.
Our bed & breakfast has three en-suite guest bedrooms with plenty of off-road parking and is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. We have two double rooms and one twin which has extra long (6' 6") beds that can be converted into a superking for multiple night stays. All three rooms at the B&B have a full en suite shower room, TV and Wi-Fi internet access as well as coffee and tea making facilities.
There is also a hairdryer and radio alarm clock in each room for guests' convenience as well as an information pack which contains details on the local attractions, restaurants and popular walks from the house through the national park to, for example, Bakewell, Haddon Hall, Chatsworth, and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle on Stanton Moor, all within three miles of The Old Station House.
Rowsley village lies at the Text taken from bandbstays.co.uk junction of the rivers Wye and Derwent along the A6 between Matlock and Bakewell. The oldest part of the village dates from the seventeenth century and is still part of the Haddon Estate, including the former dower house for Haddon Hall, built in 1652 and now the Peacock Hotel. Rowsley's pub, the Grouse and Claret, is just around the corner from The Old Station House and has an extensive menu.
Rowsley is also home to the Peak Village, a shopping area that was recently taken over by the Chatsworth Estate and now includes the hugely popular Chatsworth Kitchen daytime restaurant, soon to be open on Friday and Saturday evenings. There are also two art galleries in the village; Gallery Top opposite The Old Station House and Derwent Wye Fine Art next to Caudwell's Mill. The East Lodge, a popular wedding venue, is across the road from the B&B. Just outside the village is Rowsley South station, home to the Peak Railway Society which runs steam heritage passenger trains between Matlock Riverside and Rowsley South on weekends.
