Union Place is right on the cliffs and just a 5-minute walk from Whitby town centre and harbour. This Grade II Listed Georgian Adam townhouse enjoys beautiful views of Whitby and the coast. Our B&B dates to the 18th century and offers contemporary and elegant accommodation in a lovely part of North Yorkshire. We aim to provide a place where guests can rest, relax and recuperate. This very individual house is a well-known landmark on the Open Top Bus tour of Whitby due to its splendid ‘bottle window’ which runs down the property’s north façade.
Guests can stay in either the Blue Room or the Green Room, both of which are situated on the first-floor landing and have shared bathroom facilities.
The Blue Room: Decorated with Farrow and Ball colours, providing a calm, relaxing atmosphere which complements the various Georgian features. The comfortable double bed has cotton bed linen to encourage restful sleep. A courtesy tray with Fair Trade teas and coffees is available.
The Green Room: This spacious, welcoming room has Georgian proportions and features. The focal point of the room is the 19th century Chinese Wedding Cabinet in a range of hardwoods. The double bed has crisp cotton linen all designed to make your stay as comfortable as possible. A courtesy tray with Fair Trade teas and coffee is available.
Guests are very welcome to relax in the reception room, which is a large, calm room Text taken from bandbstays.co.uk with a wonderful bay window. Part of the owners’ collection of paintings and objets d’art help to furnish this elegantly proportioned lounge and guests will feel immediately at ease.
Breakfast is served in the basement, a light, airy space overlooking the garden. Guests can choose from vegetarian, vegan or traditional options, all of which are sourced wherever feasible, from local suppliers. The emphasis is very much on variety and quality, ensuring you start your day right.
Whitby is steeped in history and is home to many wonderful attractions, as well as being a great base for those looking to explore North Yorkshire. The town continues to be dominated by the ruins of Whitby Abbey which is reached by climbing the 199 steps up the cliffs after having trod the cobbled streets through the old town. Miles of golden beaches await visitors on the west side whilst the shale beds in the shadow of the east cliffs contain the remains of our pre-history in the form of numerous fossils awaiting the adventurous explorer.
A short drive from the town is the North York Moors National Park and the famous coastal villages of Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay, and Staithes.
