Fenham Farm

Beal, Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland

Facilities

Description

Fenham Farm offers wonderful bed & breakfast accommodation on a beautiful coastal spot at Beal overlooking Holy Island in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and of Special Scientific Interest in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland,

The premises are old stone buildings which formed part of the original farm steading. They have been converted into 7 spacious en suite rooms which are independent of the farmhouse and have individual front doors so your space is your own. The fifth (Dunlin) is slightly smaller than the others but boasts beautiful views over the sea. You will enjoy modern comfort all round with Egyptian cotton sheets and feather filled duvets and will be kept warm and cosy with underfloor heating supplied from our ground source heat pump.

All the rooms include fairtrade tea & coffee hospitality tray with home baking and fresh milk, fluffy towelling bath robes and luxurious towels and complimentary guest toiletries.

Lapwing has been specifically built to suit people with accessibility needs but all the guest rooms are on the ground floor and there is an access ramp to the dining room in the farmhouse where breakfast is served.

Breakfasts are cooked to order using local products wherever possible Text taken from bandbstays.co.uk and fresh eggs from our own hens. The jams and marmalade are homemade and the honey is from the local honey farm.

We have secure storage for bikes and a drying room for wet walking and cycling gear.

For the birdwatcher and lover of nature, this area provides a unique opportunity to see and get close to some of the country’s rarest animals. In the autumn months, the sand flats that are exposed at low tide become a huge feeding ground for geese and waders from around the world. We have marked out some walks around the farm to enable you to enjoy our unique location. A short boat trip from the nearby seaside village of Seahouses takes you to the Farne Islands, a small cluster of rocky islands which provide a home to thousands of seabirds which breed and nest there including the wonderful puffins. The islands are also home to one of the largest grey seal colonies in the country.

Northumberland is a land of contrasts, from the sandy beaches and rugged cliffs of the coast to the high wilderness of the Cheviot Hills. There are more castles and fortified houses in Northumberland than any other English county. Some of the castles in the area include Bamburgh, complete with its very own dragon legend and Arthurian connections. Lindisfarne on Holy Island just across the sands from Fenham Farm is probably one of the most iconic (and most photographed) castles in the country. Alnwick Castle is the ancestral home to the Duke & Duchess of Northumberland and recently has found fame as the setting of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies.

Both walkers and cyclists are truly spoilt for choice with mile upon mile of well-marked routes including St Cuthberts Way and Sustrans National Route 1 : Coast and Castles cycle route running literally right past the door!

Other activities include golf – with many courses including those at nearby Goswick, Bamburgh, Seahouses and Dunstanburgh to name but a few. For the less energetic, simply enjoy the scenery and fill your days with the sights and sounds of the beautiful coastline and unmissable destinations and events such as the Alnwick Garden as well as a multitude of fantastic festivals and fairs which take place throughout the year.
