Melrose Guest House is in the centre of Ambleside and is an elegant Victorian Guest House. Whether you are looking for a short break, mid week treat or a family holiday to the Lake District, we look forward to welcoming you. Our location is perfect for those who want to escape the pressures of modern living.

We have ensured that our guest house is furnished to an excellent standard and has been accredited a 4 Star Silver Award from Visit England. We do have safe storage for bikes, hard standing for motorbikes and also drying facilities for outdoor clothing. We are also very happy to provide free flask refills so you have a hot drink to take with you for the day – just ask after breakfast. Packed lunches are also available when ordered the day before.

You can choose from 8 stylish bedrooms, with some boasting stunning fell views. You can choose from single, Text taken from bandbstays.co.uk double, king and superior double rooms. For a special occasion, we also have a wonderful four-poster room. All the rooms come with excellent facilities:

In a morning, breakfast can be enjoyed in our dining room which is at the front of the house. You can savour a home cooked full Cumbrian or vegetarian breakfast using locally sourced produce, including local jams and relishes. Lighter options are available and special diets are catered for.

Ambleside has a wealth of fine eating establishments, all within a stone's throw of the Melrose. You can dine on fish and chips, Indian, Chinese, Thai, traditional pub grub to haute cuisine. Most weekends of the year, Ambleside is popular, so it is advisable to book a table at some of the more popular venues in advance. As well as a plethora of walks and routes just waiting to be explored, there are also many attractions:
