The house, though renovated recently to a very comfortable, modern standard, still retains its original features such as inglenook fireplaces and beams, recovered from ships in times gone by.

Winterborne Stickland is surrounded by lovely rolling Dorset countryside, lying 4½ miles south west of Blandford Forum which has a selection of pubs and restaurants. A short walk to Winterborne Houghton, along the Winterborne stream, rewards the walker with sights of kingfishers, voles, wagtails and egrets (recent settlers from France) and before going home fresh trout can be bought at the hatchery ponds.
